What turned discontent youths to protest and with what effects?
The early 1980s were a bleak era for many youths in (Western) Europe. Among other they faced youth unemployment, housing shortage and a nuclear missile crisis. How did youths in different parts of Europe respond? Were these youths connected? And if so, what effects did these connections set in motion?
The 2016 edited volume A European Youth Revolt analyzes youth and protest movements in the 1980s, their motivations, connections and influence. The introduction to the volume The Last Insurrection? Youth, Revolts and Social Movements in the 1980s provides a first overview. I revisited the topic in Youth with no future? Restless youth, radical politics and pop culture in the 1980s in Europe.
